Kathrine Rundell- Literature Festival.

In the Cheltenham Literature Festival, I met a children’s author named Kathrine Rundell.

She explained how she had faced many adventures caused by her books. One of her books -‘The Explorer’-  was set in a rainforest and it was about kids who had crashed in a helicopter . She explained how she was inspired to write this book, because she had went to the Amazon rainforest. She also stated that if she wanted to make her stories sound real, she had to try the things in real life, especially the food.

In her book, the characters ate piranhas so she decided to try them, she said they tasted like chicken and they were easy to catch.

She also wanted to try Tarantulas, like the people in her book. The person who was catching them for her told her they were like gerbils, that lowered her enthusiasm to eat one of those hairy eight legged creatures even more. So instead of trying one she decided to ask the people who lived in the Amazon. They said it tasted like prawn and soft meat.

Later on, she decided to try tinned tarantula, as she lived in London, they weren’t easy to access. They tasted horrible and hairy.

Soon, she noticed that tinned food and fresh food weren’t quite the same.

Altogether, she had much more adventures, most food related, but most of them required bravery. I think she has  good qualities which an author requires. If someone sits at home rather than experiencing, they will never make their story seem realistic.

  3. Well Leyla I wonder whether you can experience more interesting things if you can go camping with mum and sister. There are so many places near where you live that will have interesting things. Such as Snowdonia. Our maybe not so far in future mum can take you guys to Senja/norway.

  4. Well Leyle there are so many places close to home that is also very interesting. I wonder whether you can convince mum to take you guys to camping such as in snowdonia or seja/norway. Sometimes we miss the interesting things that are closer to where we are.

    2. In some residentials I had been to I learnt survival skills as we mostly stayed in tents and hiked around the forest. Those skills are useful.
